My co worker, Shelby, flew in from Seattle this week and is staying with us. I thought it would be a great way to get to know each other better and I was right. She’s incredibly smart, giving, compassionate and fun loving. I’m incredibly lucky to have her as a co worker and friend. More than that I think I’m extremely grateful she, a married but no kids yet 34 year old person, has a great sense of humor. During dinner last night Merrick was spinning tunes on Pandora while we ate. He asked us to stop talking and listen to the music. Between Scott, Shelby and I we smirked at the 5 year old trying to set the mood for dinner by playing Kids Bopz. Shelby starts to ask Merr a question
“Hey Merrick, Do….”
“Did I tell you, you could speak?” GASP
Shelby being a great sport tucks her lips in to her mouth and shakes her head.
“MERRICK CHARLES you CAN NOT (laughing) speak to…” (laughing to hard to finish)
Scott pipes in and finishes what I wasn’t able to. It took WAY to long for me to compose myself. Scott was quick to point his finger at me for that parrot comment. I lost count of how many times I’ve apologized to Shelby. I know she finds the humor in it because we are a lot a like. You know in retrospect you wish you would have done/said something different? I really wish when Scott said “You know where he got that from?” I would have said “Did I tell you, you could speak?” I’m sure there will be a next time.
